Pre-flight PPK assessment
To achieve successful convergence and high accuracy, follow these pre-flight requirements:
RTK Module: You must mount the RTK module on the drone even for PPK flights.
Base Station Setup: The base station must record for a minimum of 60 minutes, completely overlapping the drone's flight time.
Flight Duration: Ensure your flight lasts at least 10 minutes to allow the solution to converge.
Limitations
Internet connection: While the flight doesn't require a link, you need a stable internet connection to upload the large data sets for processing.
Regional constraints: Auto-PPK is currently optimized for the United States and European Union.
Absolute accuracy verification: While PPK is highly accurate, you must still use checkpoints to verify the absolute accuracy of your map against known benchmarks.
FAQs
Q: When is my drone collecting observations? A: The drone collects observations whenever it is powered on with an RTK module attached.
Q: Do I still need Ground Control Points (GCPs)? A: PPK maps are significantly more accurate than standard GPS maps. However, we still recommend GCPs for projects requiring the highest level of absolute accuracy.
Q: Does PPK work with the Skydio X10? A: Yes, DroneDeploy processes data from the Skydio X10 and will automatically apply PPK corrections if you fly with the RTK module attached.
