Automatic GCP Tagging

Have more questions? Submit a request

Automatic Ground Control Point (GCP) tagging allows DroneDeploy to tag your GCPs and checkpoints for you. In Project Settings, this feature appears as “Let DroneDeploy tag my GCPs.” It removes the need for manual tagging steps, ensuring your maps are created with consistent control applied.

Availability: who has access?

Automatic GCP Tagging is included with Aerial Pro and is controlled on a per-project basis. Enable the feature in Project Settings using the “Let DroneDeploy tag my GCPs” toggle.

How to use Automatic GCP tagging

Follow these steps to enable and use the Automatic GCP Tagging feature:

  1. Open your project in DroneDeploy.

  2. Navigate to the Project Settings.

  3. Scroll to the Automatic GCP Tagging section.

Click the Let DroneDeploy tag my GCPs toggle to enable the feature.

  4. Upload your ground control points and process your map.

Requirements and best practices

Use Automatic GCP tagging to reduce processing time and ensure high-quality map accuracy.

  • Use standard, high-contrast checkerboard targets. If a marker is not clearly identifiable, the system may skip it, which can impact final accuracy.

  • Aim for strong visibility: each GCP should appear in many clear images.

  • Distribute GCPs well and include checkpoints to ensure absolute accuracy.

  • For effective Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC), pair this feature with Accuracy Alerts and Review (another Aerial Pro project toggle) to surface issues and get expert guidance when needed.
