Advanced Earthworks Analysis
The advanced earthworks tools allow you to quantify earth movement with precision. Using the Cut/Fill layer, enable the Locations and Grid View toggles, then use per-location Progress to Design and a History timeline in the right sidebar for fast, reliable reporting.
Availability: Who has access?
The advanced Earthworks features are included with Aerial Pro.
How to use Cut/Fill Analysis
Follow these steps to get started with the Cut/Fill tool:
Open your project in DroneDeploy.
Switch to the Cut/Fill layer.
Choose what to compare: a previous flight or a design surface.
Key Features
Locations toggle
Use Locations to analyze cut/fill for specific areas of interest that persist across flights. This helps you report volumes by phase, pad, or zone.
To use, enable Locations in the Cut/Fill layer to limit the analysis to selected locations.
The sidebar lists Earthworks locations along with their volume metrics.
When Locations are enabled, the map and metrics focus on the selected locations only, rather than the entire site.
Grid View toggle
Grid View overlays a uniform grid labeled with numeric cut/fill values. This provides at-a-glance precision and rapid quality assurance (QA).
Enable Grid View in the Cut/Fill layer to display grid labels.
This feature supports both map-to-map and map-to-design comparisons.
If Locations are enabled, Grid View displays only for the selected locations; if Locations are off, Grid View covers the entire site.
Per-location sidebar: Progress to Design
This shows the remaining cut, fill, and net progress needed to meet your design surface for the selected location.
To use, in the Cut/Fill layer, set your comparison to Design Surface, select a location, and review its Progress to Design metrics in the right sidebar.
You can also select a new design surface in the right sidebar.
Per-location sidebar: History Timeline
The History Timeline shows a timeline of cut/fill changes for the selected location across past flights. This allows you to track production over time.
Tips
For location-based reporting, export CSVs with per-location totals directly from the Cut/Fill layer when preparing status or pay-app documentation.
