Upload and Export Custom Coordinate Systems

Custom Coordinate Systems

DroneDeploy also allows you to specify your own coordinate system. This is useful for site-specific reference systems based on a location unique to your site. Currently, this is performed with the GCP Workflow.

Custom Coordinate Exports is a Teams and Enterprise feature
Exporting custom coordinate data requires a Teams or Enterprise subscription at this time. Individual subscribers may have the option to upload the data, but will not see custom data when creating exports. If you're interested in reviewing your subscription and upgrading, reach out to us here.

1. Add A Custom Grid to your project (preferred method)

Processing Custom Coordinate Ground Controlled Maps (Custom Grids)

The process for uploading data from a custom coordinate system closely resembles that of a standard coordinate system, with the key distinction being the utilization of the "Custom Coordinates" CSV template. Unlike the standard template, this custom template includes three additional columns for "Custom Northing," "Custom Easting," and "Custom Elevation," accommodating the specific parameters of the custom coordinate system. This requires a transformation for each surveyed ground control point or checkpoint from a known coordinate system to a custom coordinate system.

A. Download the correct .csv template

CSV Templates:

Custom Latitude / Longitude Template (m)

Custom Northing / Easting Template (m)

Custom Northing / Easting Template (ft)

B. Transform your coordinates from a known coordinate system to your custom coordinate system.

C. Upload your .csv file with your GCPs and Checkpoints. See Processing GCPs with DroneDeploy

You can also calibrate your Project to a Custom Coordinate System. See Define a Project Level Custom Grid!

3. After Map Processing, Export in Custom Coordinates

You will notice a new "Custom Coordinates" drop-down option in the Export projections menu when your map successfully processes with GCPs. Exports made with this option selected will be georeferenced in your custom coordinate system.

4. Press 'Export' and Enjoy your File!

You will get an email shortly after with a link to download the map in the specified EPSG projection.
