Overview

This article provides solutions for common firmware-related issues encountered when using DroneDeploy with your hardware. Keeping your firmware up to date ensures compatibility with the latest DroneDeploy features and safety enhancements.

General Troubleshooting Steps

Before diving into specific error codes, perform these initial checks to ensure your system is ready for flight:

  • Verify Compatibility: Ensure your drone and mobile device are on the supported hardware list.

  •

Check Connections: Confirm all cables are secure and the remote controller is properly linked to the aircraft.

  •

Update Apps: Confirm you are using the latest version of the DroneDeploy Ground App and the manufacturer’s flight app.

How to update firmware

Follow these steps to ensure your hardware is running the correct software version:

  1. Power on your equipment. Turn on the remote controller and then the aircraft.

  2. Open the manufacturer's app. Navigate to the General Settings menu and select Firmware Update.

  3. Download and install. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the update. Ensure your mobile device has at least 50% battery life before starting.

  4. Restart all devices. Once the update is 100% complete, power cycle the aircraft, remote controller and mobile device.

Common Issues and Solutions

The app says "Firmware Mismatch": This occurs when the firmware versions on the aircraft and the remote controller do not align. To resolve this, connect each component individually to the manufacturer’s assistant software on a computer and apply the latest updates.

Update fails at 90%: Signal interference or a poor internet connection often causes mid-update failures. Move to a location with strong Wi-Fi and keep the mobile device within 3ft of the remote controller during the process.

Key Details

  •

Consistency: Always update all batteries if the manufacturer requires separate battery firmware updates.

  •

Release Notes: Refer to the DroneDeploy website for specific version requirements for advanced features like Terrain Awareness.

Limitations

  • DroneDeploy does not support firmware updates directly within the Ground App; you must use the manufacturer's official tools.

  • Beta firmware versions may cause unexpected behavior and are not recommended for commercial operations.

FAQs

Q: Does DroneDeploy work with the latest DJI firmware?
A: Yes — DroneDeploy supports the latest stable public firmware releases for all supported DJI models.

Q: What happens to my flight logs if I update?
A: Your flight logs remain stored on the mobile device and the DroneDeploy cloud; updating firmware does not delete this data.
