Front overlap (or frontlap) refers to the overlap between consecutive images taken along the drone's flight path. Side overlap (or sidelap) is the overlap between adjacent flight lines.
We recommend a significant overlap (at least 70% side and front overlap) for most mapping missions.
Why Overlap is Important: The greater the image overlap, the easier it is for our software to process your images.
Result: A higher overlap percentage gives you greater map detail and improves accuracy.
For high-accuracy surveys, complex 3D models, or mapping uneven terrain, consider increasing the front overlap to 80–85% and the side overlap to 70–75%.
