What is the recommended front and side overlap?

Front overlap (or frontlap) refers to the overlap between consecutive images taken along the drone's flight path. Side overlap (or sidelap) is the overlap between adjacent flight lines.

We recommend a significant overlap (at least 70% side and front overlap) for most mapping missions.

  • Why Overlap is Important: The greater the image overlap, the easier it is for our software to process your images.

  • Result: A higher overlap percentage gives you greater map detail and improves accuracy.

For high-accuracy surveys, complex 3D models, or mapping uneven terrain, consider increasing the front overlap to 80–85% and the side overlap to 70–75%.
