Overview

DroneDeploy uses AI to automatically analyze captures within your defined locations. This provides the context needed to turn project images into actionable insights, making it easier to locate images and track the progress of specific sections of your job site over time.

Availability: Who has access?

  • AI Annotations on Locations is available for Advanced, Teams, and Enterprise users.

  • This feature is currently in Open Beta.

  • Users must have Edit access or higher for the project to create locations.

How to use AI Annotations on Locations

To leverage AI analysis within your project areas, you must first define your locations:

  1. Open your project and select the Locations layer in the left-hand sidebar.

  2. Click Add to create a new location.

  3. Use the drawing tools on the right to define the location boundaries on the map or floor plan.

  4. Name your location and select a color to identify it, then click Save.

Once you save a location, DroneDeploy automatically links any media that falls inside that area. If you edit the location shape, the system updates the associations based on the new boundaries.

Key Features

  • Automatic Media Association: Media captured within a location automatically links to that specific area.

  • Searchable Insights: You can search for media using the location key within the application.

  • Heatmap Visibility: Each location displays an opacity level based on the number of captures within its boundaries. Locations with more captures appear darker on the map.

  • Progress Tracking: AI models identify installed trades and material quantities, providing visual reports organized by location and date.

Limitations

  • Media Marker Visibility: When locations are displayed, media markers (walks and photos) that intersect these locations may be hidden to reduce visual clutter.

  • Organization-Wide Settings: Photo marker visibility is controlled at the organization level and cannot be adjusted for individual users or projects.

  • Walk Markers: Marker visibility controls currently support photos only and do not include walk markers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Are locations specific to a project? A: Yes. Locations are specific to the project where they are created. Exterior locations appear on every exterior map for that project, while interior locations are specific to a particular level.

Q: If I create locations after adding captures, will my media still be associated? A: Yes. DroneDeploy associates existing media with the new location boundaries.

Q: Can I build an annotations report out of AI annotations? A: Yes. The output from AI annotations is a typical annotation that can be displayed in a report.
