3D Annotations

3D Annotations bring you a more efficient and accurate noting in 3D mode for precision, accuracy, and a better experience when annotating your model. Annotations in 3D will snap right onto the 3D surface and draw exactly where your cursor is pointed, allowing you to make the most accurate measurements ever in 3D. This will enable you to precisely measure complex 3D structures such as towers, buildings, and facilities.

Availability
3D Annotations are available to users on our paid plans! (Subscription level determines which 3D annotations you have access to).

Creating a 3D Annotation

To create an annotation in 3D, ensure you're viewing the 3D Model within your project.

To select an existing annotation, simply click on it. Once selected, you can move the points on your annotation to refine it or change sidebar selections such as volume base plane and see the annotation rendering and measurements update accordingly.

The Annotation Toolbar

To create a new annotation while in 3D mode, first select the type of annotation you want to make from the menu on the right side of the screen.

Then, begin clicking or tapping to define the points of your annotation. When you are all done, click the checkmark or double-click your last point.

Distance

Available on Lite plans and above!

Our distance tool is now much more accurate in 3D mode, providing the traditional X, Y support - we now support vertical measurements in the Z direction. Any distance measurement made in 3D is the sum of X, Y, and Z distance. This is helpful for our inspection users, as well as any users' flying vertical facade plans.

You can now make measurements on windows and other vertical planes.

Area and Volume

Available on Lite plans and above!

Area annotations now allow vertical plane measurements. With an optimized and more precise cursor, create area measurements on any surface.

Stockpile measurements in 3D are easier than ever, with our improved rendering and use of 3D mesh. This allows for increased accuracy of your volume annotations.

Edge Annotations

Edge annotations are now available in 3D. You can add edge annotations to any model in 3D. Then, you have the option to export those annotations as a DXF file.

Pro-Tip
If you’re having trouble navigating the 3D model to get a good view of the point you want to select, try double-clicking on the model. This will center the camera on the point that you double-clicked.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I access it?

3D Annotations are available for all paid plans. Subscription level determines which 3D annotations you have access to.  Learn more about our subscription plans or start your free trial today.

How does this affect current reports?

Current Annotation Reports will contain the 3D measurement information. For now, vertical plans will not have an Annotation Report.

Can you measure facades?

You can measure facades, but it won’t show up on the Annotation Report at this time.

Which annotations are supported?

All annotations are supported.

Are 3D Annotations supported on mobile?

No. At this time both 3D Models and 3D Annotations are not supported on any mobile device.

How are edge annotation different from the line annotation?

The line is intended to measure elevation or length in one line. Edge annotation is intended to capture the measurements of a structure.

Can you use auto-export?

Not at this time. Manual export only.

Where can I use radius vs. edge annotations?

Radius is only in 2D view and Edge annotations are only in 3D view.
