The Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) is a sensor that measures your drone’s acceleration, rotation, and orientation. Calibrating the IMU is crucial for stable and accurate flight, especially after traveling to a new location or a firmware update.

Availability

This process is available for DJI drones that use the DJI GO or DJI GO 4 app, such as the Phantom 4 Series, Mavic 2 Series, and Spark.

How to use IMU Calibration: Step-by-Step Guide

Before you begin, ensure your drone's battery is at least 50%, and place the aircraft on a level and dry surface.

  1. Open the DJI GO app and connect your drone to the remote controller.

  2. Enter the camera view and navigate to the camera settings.

  3. Scroll down to the three dots in the top right corner of the screen to open the Main Controller Settings.

  4. In the menu, click on Advanced Settings.

  5. Scroll down until you see Sensors and tap it.

  6. Select IMU to access the calibration and update settings.

  7. Tap Calibrate to start the IMU calibration process.

    • This step is optional but recommended if you have not calibrated the IMU recently or have traveled with your drone.

  8. Follow the on-screen instructions to calibrate the IMU. The app guides you on how to place and rotate the drone on its different axes.

  9. Once the calibration is complete, the app displays a success message, and the aircraft will restart.

Limitations and Important Notes

  • Calibration Failure: If the calibration fails, restart the aircraft and repeat the steps. If the issue remains, contact DJI for testing and submit a repair request.

  • Firmware Update: After a successful calibration, you can check the IMU status to see if a firmware update is available. If a prompt to Update appears, tap it and follow the on-screen instructions. Do not turn off your drone or mobile device during the update.
