Current recommendation

DroneDeploy recommends the DJI Dock 2 for customer hardware purchases. The Dock 2 is a reliable and proven option, fully compatible with Dock Automation, and well-suited for most Enterprise needs.

DroneDeploy does not recommend the Dock 1 because DJI no longer actively supports it. Refer to the section below for reasons to consider the Dock 3, which comes at an additional cost.

Who should buy the Dock 3?

  • Improved dock insulation and temperature control: The Dock 3 operates effectively in colder and hotter temperatures compared to the Dock 2. This is particularly useful for sites in locations with temperatures frequently exceeding 100°F. The unit is IP56 rated.

  • Future-proof dock hardware: This dock supports the Matrice 5 series.

  • Improved drone obstacle avoidance: Enhanced safety and customer experience become more important in BVLOS operations.

  • Map larger areas in a single battery: Up to 29% faster mapping, 66% faster ascent and descent for quicker mission completion, and 10% longer battery life means users can map approximately 40% larger areas on a single battery. This benefits mega-projects like Data Centers, which previously required a fixed-wing drone.

  • New add-on modules:

    • Obstacle avoidance sensor with Lidar for flying around environments like substations with wires or thin objects that are difficult to detect.

    • Relay station to place the radio communications and GPS receiver on a roof while the dock remains on the ground.
