Dock Automation: who has access & what do we support?

Have more questions? Submit a request

DroneDeploy Dock Automation allows users to plan, execute and monitor docked drone missions directly from the DroneDeploy platform. This feature streamlines high-accuracy data capture for autonomous inspections and large-scale projects.

Availability: Who has access?

Dock Automation is available as an add-on feature for enterprise customers. To enable this feature for your organization, please contact your Customer Success Manager. If you do not know your Customer Success Manager, contact the Support team at support@dronedeploy.com.

Supported features

The following sections outline the specific capabilities and features supported within DroneDeploy Dock Automation.

Dock specific features

  • Open and close the dock cover

  • Monitor the rain meter

  • Track wind speed

  • Monitor temperature

  • Switch between dock and drone or payload camera feeds

  • Utilize dock RTK connections

  • Execute emergency descent (available in version 2.2 and later)

Supported flight types

Dock Automation supports the following flight plans, including automatic data upload:

  • Map

  • Photo

  • Pano

  • Video

  • Corridor

Operations and compliance

  • Flight Records: Track detailed logs for every mission.

  • Equipment Tracking: Manage drone and dock hardware status.

  • Pilot Tracking: Maintain records of remote pilots for compliance.

  • Multi-flight Mapping Missions: These flights stitch into one large map. The drone waits to charge and then continues the mission automatically. More details on Multi-Battery Flight with DJI Dock.

  • Mission Chaining (Open Beta): Chain multiple plans together so the drone completes several objectives before returning to the dock.

Limitations and considerations

  • Flight Scheduling: Remote pilots must monitor every flight to meet current Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) requirements.

  • Pause and Resume Missions: Paused missions do not automatically upload data to the DroneDeploy cloud. Notify the Support team to investigate at support@dronedeploy.com.

  • Geofencing: Setup assistance for geofencing is available through your DroneDeploy representative.

  • Livestream: This feature is unavailable at this time. Contact the Support team for alternative options.

  • Manual Flight: Users can utilize fly-to-point functionality for specific mission needs.

  • Terrain Following: This is supported for the flight plan area only. It does not apply to introduction or outro flight legs.

  • Travel Altitude: Set the Travel Altitude in Advanced Settings for Map plans to ensure the drone flies at the correct height. This is available for Map plans; support for Panorama, Photo or Video missions is expected in future versions.
