We’ve identified an issue affecting Insta360 X4 camera users where 360 panos appear distorted or warped along a seam line. Enabling the "In-Camera Stitching" setting on the Insta360 X4 camera interferes with DroneDeploy's stitching process, causing these visual distortions.
Cause of the Issue
The problem arises when the Insta360 X4 camera’s "In-Camera Stitching" feature is enabled. This setting attempts to stitch the images directly on the camera, which conflicts with DroneDeploy’s own image processing and stitching methods, creating distorted outputs as shown below for ease of reference:
Solution and Workaround
Our engineering team is currently developing a fix to prevent this issue from occurring in the future. In the meantime, we recommend the following workaround:
Turn Off In-Camera Stitching
To avoid this issue, you should turn off the "In-Camera Stitching" option on the Insta360 X4 camera. Here are the steps:
- Swipe down from the top of the camera’s screen.
- Swipe left.
- Select the Settings (cog icon).
- Scroll down to Image Settings.
- Ensure that In-Camera Stitching is toggled off.
Re-Uploading Corrected Images
If you have already captured images with the "In-Camera Stitching" setting enabled, the resulting warped panos cannot be corrected within the DroneDeploy app. However, the original raw files on the camera’s SD card remain unaltered. You can manually upload these raw files in INSV format to DroneDeploy for processing to have correctly stitched panos in your projects.
Additional Assistance
If you encounter this issue when using the DroneDeploy Ground app to capture your 360 panos, please refer to the instructions above. For any further support, they may reach out to DroneDeploy’s support team by emailing support@dronedeploy.com.
