Overview
This article provides instructions on how to configure your DJI Mavic 3 Thermal (M3T) to capture only RGB imagery. By adjusting these settings within the DJI Pilot 2 app, the preference will persist when you use the DroneDeploy Flight app.
Availability: Who has access?
All DroneDeploy users with a DJI Mavic 3 Thermal (M3T) drone and the DroneDeploy Flight app.
How to use the M3T for RGB-only capture:
Open DJI Pilot 2.
Access Camera Settings. Navigate to the camera view within the DJI Pilot 2 app.
Select the Lens Configuration. Locate the lens selection toggle.
Set to RGB (V). Choose the RGB (Visual) lens only. This ensures the thermal sensor does not trigger during the mission.
Close DJI Pilot 2 and Open DroneDeploy. The setting remains active once you switch to the DroneDeploy Flight app to begin your mission.
Key Features/Details
Persistent Settings: Changes made in DJI Pilot 2 carry over to DroneDeploy, allowing for customized hardware behavior.
Storage Efficiency: Capturing only RGB data reduces the total file size of your upload and speeds up processing times when thermal data is not required.
When and why do we use this tool?
Use this configuration when your project goals are strictly visual (e.g., progress tracking or high-resolution mapping) and do not require thermal analysis.
Limitations
Manual Toggle: This setting must be adjusted in the DJI Pilot 2 app before starting a DroneDeploy flight; it cannot be changed directly within the DroneDeploy interface.
FAQs
Q: Does the setting reset if I restart the drone?
A: No, the setting typically persists across power cycles, but it is a best practice to verify the lens selection in DJI Pilot 2 during your pre-flight check.
Q: Can I capture both Thermal and RGB at the same time?
A: Yes, you can re-enable the thermal lens in DJI Pilot 2 to capture synchronized data.
