DJI Fly and GO 4 Applications

This article gives an overview of the DJI Fly and DJI GO 4 native applications. Outside of the DroneDeploy application, users must sometimes initiate settings or calibrations in these native apps. This overview assists in locating the proper app for firmware updates, compass calibrations and other maintenance tasks.

DJI Fly

The DJI Fly app is compatible with the following hardware:

  • DJI Mini 3 and DJI Mini 3 Pro

  • DJI Mini 4 Pro

  • DJI Mavic 3, DJI Mavic 3 Classic and DJI Mavic 3 Pro

  • DJI Mini SE and DJI Mini 2 SE

  • DJI Air 2S and DJI Air 3

  • DJI Mini 2

  • Mavic Air 2

  • Mavic Mini

  • DJI Avata and FPV

If you operate any of these drones, this application is the primary tool for firmware updates and hardware calibrations.

Introduction to the DJI Fly app page

The landing page allows access to profile information and images. From here, you can connect the drone to the application. If the drone is already paired to the mobile device, the bottom right corner displays Go Fly instead of Connection Guide. The drone connects automatically once it is turned on.

After connecting the drone, the Camera View screen appears. Access settings by clicking the Three Dots in the top right corner.

The Safety tab is the first section in the settings menu. Use this tab to update maximum altitude, distance and home point information. This section also provides battery information and options to calibrate the compass and IMU.

In the About tab, you can check for firmware updates and identify the version of Aircraft and RC firmware in use. This tab provides additional aircraft information and updates.

DJI GO 4

The DJI GO 4 app is compatible with the following hardware: 

  • Mavic Pro

  • Mavic 2 and Mavic 2 Pro

  • Mavic Air

  • Spark

  • Phantom 4 Advanced, Phantom 4 Pro and Phantom 4 V2.0

  • Inspire 2

  • Matrice 200-210 RTK

If you operate any of these drones, use this application for firmware updates and hardware calibrations.

Introduction to the DJI GO 4 app page

The DJI GO 4 landing page serves as the gateway to connect the drone and review captured data. When the drone is connected, the status appears in the bottom left corner. Enter the device Camera View by clicking the Enter Device tab on the right.

The About tab allows you to check for firmware updates and Aircraft/RC firmware versions. Locate this tab by clicking the Three Bottom Dots on the settings page.

IMU and compass calibration

To calibrate sensors, follow these steps:

  1. Click the Drone Icon (depicted in blue).

  2. Scroll down to the Sensors tab.

  3. Click the IMU or Compass tab to begin calibration.

When operating the Phantom 4 Series, calibrating the compass and IMU is critical. Practice calibrating the compass before each flight regardless of the platform.

Preparation for DroneDeploy

Before flying in the DroneDeploy app, ensure the firmware is up to date on the drone and all settings run optimally in the DJI native app. Most complications result from outdated firmware or required calibrations that must be addressed in the DJI application before utilizing DroneDeploy.
