What is Cropping?

Cropping is a tool that allows you to adjust the visible boundaries of your mapped area. This is useful when the edges of a processed map are uneven or if you collected data beyond your intended project site. The tool works best on an updated version of the Google Chrome browser.

Availability: Who has access?

  • Cropping is available for all DroneDeploy subscription tiers.

  • The feature applies to both 2D and 3D map views.

How to use Cropping

  1. Open your project in DroneDeploy. Navigate to the map you want to adjust.

  2. Click the arrow to the right of the Map.

  3. Choose Crop Map Area under the Area section.

  4. Adjust the anchors.

    • To move an anchor: Click and drag a white dot to a new location.

    • To add an anchor: Click and drag a semi-opaque dot between two existing anchors.

    • To remove an anchor: Click an existing white anchor once.

  5. Save your changes. DroneDeploy saves the crop automatically after each edit. Click the Crop Map Area button again to hide the markers and finalize the view.

Limitations

  • Concave Shapes in 3D: The 3D crop does not support concave shapes. It creates a convex hull from the 2D crop and uses that as the boundary for 3D views.

FAQs

Q: My map edges seem cut off. Can I fix this? A: Yes. Use the Crop Map Area tool to expand the map boundary and include areas that may appear missing.

Q: Do I need to click a save button? A: No. DroneDeploy saves your crop adjustments automatically as you move each anchor.

Q: Does this change the underlying data? A: No. Cropping only changes the visible boundary of the map layer within the DroneDeploy interface and exports.
