If the drone is experiencing a problem on its flight, what should I do?

If your flight is running into any difficulties, we recommend using the Return to Home (RTH) function. You can initiate this action by hitting the Home button on the DroneDeploy application or on your remote controller. This will automatically fly the drone back to its takeoff location.

If you are feeling uncomfortable at any point during the flight, you can also take manual control of the drone by switching the controller's mode switch to Sport or S mode, depending on your aircraft.

Here are general troubleshooting steps and pre-flight checks that can help prevent issues:

  • Pre-Flight Checks: Always confirm your mobile device OS, the DroneDeploy app, and the DJI apps are fully updated. Uncalibrated hardware and out-of-date firmware are common issues that cause unexpected behavior.

  • Compass and IMU: Before opening DroneDeploy, launch the DJI app first to ensure the compass and IMU do not need to be recalibrated. Travel can cause these instruments to become uncalibrated.

  • App Management: Ensure the DroneDeploy app is the only app running on your device. All other apps, including the DJI app, should be hard-closed. Only one app can connect to your drone at a time.

  • Power Cycle: If your drone will not take off or is experiencing issues, try a full power cycle of the drone, controller, and the DroneDeploy app.

  • Mechanical Issues: If the GPS check fails, move away from any metal objects (such as your car) to prevent interference, and restart your drone, RC, and the DroneDeploy app.

  • Firmware and Settings: Verify that Multiple Flight Mode is set to ON and Beginner Mode is set to OFF in the DJI app.
