Use LAANC Authorization to request Authorization before you fly.
DroneDeploy is pleased to announce LAANC Authorization in partnership with Airspace Link.
Availability:
The use of DroneDeploy LAANC integration is recommended but optional. If you have a third-party provider from which you choose to receive Authorization, you can quickly request Authorization and fly in DroneDeploy.
What is LAANC Authorization?
LAANC is the Low Altitude Authorization and Notification Capability that provides users the ability to:
- Check airspace - explore restrictions in your project area.
- Plan - and request authorization from the FAA up to 90 days before you fly.
- View and edit upcoming authorizations for all of your projects in DroneDeploy.
What Kind of Authorizations Are Covered?
LAANC Authorization covers airports, special uses, national security, temporary flight restrictions, controlled airspace, special DC areas, stadiums, national parks, and other LAANC-authorized flights.
How to get Access to the LAANC Integration
To access the integration, navigate to the 'Airspace & LAANC' Authorization section on the side panel while on the fly tab and click on it.
From there, click on "Request LAANC."
When you submit a LAANC request from within DroneDeploy, you will be directed to the Airspace Link LAANC portal, AirHub Portal. You can create a new account or log in to an existing one.
Your AirHub Portal login will be saved for up to 30 days per device, so you will not have to sign in each time you submit a LAANC request.
Steps to Initiate LAANC Authorization
Step 1: You should plan your flight like usual in DroneDeploy.
Step 2: After creating your flight plan, look for the LAANC dropdown on the left side panel.
Step 4 Once you click on the arrow, you can read the briefing details provided by Airspace Link to understand the current restrictions, if any.
Step 5: Click "View Airspace" to view the local airspace to see controlled or restricted boundaries.
Step 6: You can look at the local airspace by clicking on the map.
Step 7: you can go ahead and request LAANC approval. Once you exit the map view,
Step 8: Once your Authorization is approved, you will see it in the 'Airspace & LAANC` section on the fly tab. You can also press the 'Manage' link to make any changes in the AirHub portal.
FAQs:
1. Do you know if this works on my desktop?
Yes - one of the benefits of LAANC with DroneDeploy is that it works on desktop and mobile devices.
2. Do I have to sign up with Airspace Link?
Yes, each pilot must complete a one-time sign-up form. Please provide your name and mobile number so the control tower can contact you.
3. How can I update the operator information on my request?
If the operator's contact information is greyed out and cannot be edited, please contact Airspace Link Support to clear this information, and then enter a new pilot name and phone number.
4. What is the difference between a no-fly zone (NFZ) and a LAANC area?
NFZ, or DJI's No Fly Zones, are deemed unsafe or restricted areas. The drone can only fly in these areas if you unlock the zone in the DJI app.
LAANC Authorization is more of a legal authorization. There is no ruling over whether or not the drone will fly; it is only for legal approval through the FAA.
So, in short:
LAANC = optional and has no dictation over drone flight
NFZ = not option, dictated by DJI, and can prevent the drone from flying
5. How do I unlock my drone in a no-fly zone (NFZ)?
No matter how you get your Authorization, you will want to follow our documentation to unlock the location from DJI's SDK.
