Project overview

A project is a location-based organization that centralizes your relevant drone data into one place. This makes tracking change over time easy and time-efficient.

There are five tabs within a project:

  1. Fly: Reusable flight templates are on the Fly tab. A flight template is similar to a former flight plan, but you can fly a template as many times as you like without copying it. This helps remove variability when you track change over time. See more information about the Fly tab HERE
  2. Upload: The Upload tab on the mobile app shows any pending uploads and processing datasets. Use the web app if you need to upload data. Read more about uploading HERE
  3. Explore: You can view all your uploaded and processed data here. See more information about the Explore tab HERE
  4. Cameras: Integrate a fixed camera feed of your site. See more about our fixed camera solution HERE
  5. Report: The Report tab hosts all your Reports on that project. Learn more about reporting HERE

Creating a flight template

First, review Creating a New Project

for more information on how to create a new project properly.

Once you create a new project, select the Fly tab in the upper left-hand corner of the screen.

In the Fly tab, you can select the flight type you want to capture:

  • Manual: Allows you to fly and capture data without a specific flight template.
  • Agriculture:
  • Maps & Models
    • Standard - Creates a map and model.
    • Facade - Creates a vertical model.
    • Corridor - Creates a long-distance map.
  • Media
    • Panorama - Generates a spherical photo.
    • Video - Captures a high-quality video.
    • Photo Report - Captures high-quality photo.
    • 2D Orbit - Capture in a circular pattern.

Define the flight template area

When you create a flight template, the start point is generated closest to your current geolocation. The start point represents the first location the drone heads to after takeoff, and where it begins taking images.

Edit the map template by dragging the white outline markers of the map to create your desired template. You can also add points to your template by selecting the + button to add markers surrounding the map template.

Overlays

Viewing overlays on the flight planning page

Use one of your overlays as a guide for flight planning. To do this, head to the Explore tab at the top of your project. Select the overlays tab, then the overlay of your choice. From here, toggle on the option to see this on the Fly page.

Flight settings

Your flight settings are critical. Understanding and adjusting these parameters and the Advanced Settings is paramount to successfully mapping across varied conditions and subjects. Altitude and overlap settings are the most crucial parameters to consider changing for each flight.

After you fly

If your captured images do not automatically upload using Mobile Uploads, follow the Smart Uploader guide to learn how to upload your drone imagery.
