Overview
The Map Settings panel is a new control for the flight planning map that centralizes how your map looks. This panel allows you to overlay previous orthomosaics as a basemap and view the coverage areas of other flight plans on your project.
For pilots and planners on large-scale projects, ensuring 100% site coverage across multiple flights can be challenging. This feature solves that problem by providing the necessary visual context during the planning phase. Users can now reference prior maps and see all flight plan boundaries to ensure seamless data capture, prevent gaps, and validate that flight paths cover all required areas, including Ground Control Points (GCPs).
Availability
Map Settings is included in all DroneDeploy plans.
This feature is available on the web and on Remote Controller (RC) devices. iOS and older Android devices are not supported.
How to use Map Settings
A Map Settings button is visible on the flight planning map. Clicking this opens a panel with the following controls:
Show Project GCPs: The toggle to show or hide project Ground Control Points (GCPs) is located in this panel for centralized access.
Show Base Map: The "Show Existing Map" toggle is renamed Show Base Map.
- When enabled, a dropdown menu allows you to select a single, previously completed orthomosaic from the project to use as a visual reference under your plan.
- By default, the most recent ortho map is shown.
Limitations
- Single Ortho View: You can only display one orthomosaic underlay at a time.
- Settings Are Per Flight Plan: Map visibility settings are unique to each flight plan and are not shared globally across the project.
