When using the DroneDeploy flight app on a DJI Remote Controller (RC), you may encounter the following error: "DroneDeploy won't run without Google Play services, which are not supported by your device."
This occurs because the version of the DroneDeploy app intended for mobile phones is installed on the RC. Most DJI RCs do not support Google Play Services. To resolve this, you must install the version of the app specifically designed for the RC.
How to resolve the error
Follow these steps to uninstall the current app and install the correct version:
Uninstall the DroneDeploy app Go to the Settings menu on your RC, select Apps, and choose DroneDeploy. Tap Uninstall.
Download the RC-compatible version Open the web browser on your RC and go to dronedeploy.com/flightapp.
Install the APK Download the latest version from the page. Once the download finishes, open the file and select Install.
Launch the app Open the DroneDeploy app and log in. The error message will no longer appear.
Pro-Tip
For the best performance, Force Stop the DJI Pilot 2 app before launching DroneDeploy. This ensures that the drone hardware is fully available to the DroneDeploy app. To force stop DJI Pilot 2 on the controller, go to Settings > Apps & notifications > DJI Pilot 2 > Force Stop.
Limitations
You must have an internet connection on the RC to download the replacement app.
This error will return if the app is updated through an unsupported source that includes Google Play dependencies.
FAQs
Q: Why does it say Google Play Services are required?
A: This happens if the RC is running a version of the app downloaded from the Google Play Store instead of the specialized version for RC devices.
