Organization administrators can restrict flight plan editing permissions so that only users with Fly permissions can edit flight plans. When this setting is enabled, non-Fly users will see a locked Fly tab and cannot modify flight plans.

Permissions breakdown

When flight plan editing restriction is enabled, permissions operate as follows:

  • Organization Owners: Can view and edit flight plans at all times.

  • Users with Fly permissions: Can view and edit flight plans on assigned projects.

  • Read-only users: Cannot edit flight plans.

  • External users and pending organization invites (without Fly permissions): Cannot edit flight plans.

Workarounds for non-pilots needing to edit flight plans

If non-pilots (such as General Contractors, Project Managers, or Data on Demand users) need to edit flight plans, choose one of the following options:

  • Turn off the Restrict Fly tab access setting to allow all project users to edit flight plans.

  • Route flight plan updates through an assigned organization pilot or administrator.

  • Grant Fly permissions to the specific user in Organization Settings.

Limitations

  • Platform limitations: Flight plan restriction is currently unavailable on iOS devices; support will be included in a future release.

  • User roles: DroneDeploy does not currently offer a dedicated "Plan Editor" role separate from Fly permissions.
