The fastest way to automate volume measurements across your entire project.

What is Stockpile AI?

Stockpile AI is an automated tool that detects and measures soil, gravel, and other material piles within your map. Instead of manually clicking around every pile, the system identifies the base and calculates the volume automatically, saving time and increasing consistency across different users.

Availability: Who has access?

  • Stockpile AI is available for all Enterprise and Advanced subscriptions.

  • This feature is accessible on the DroneDeploy web map view.

How to use Stockpile AI

Follow these steps to generate automated measurements:

  1. Open your project in DroneDeploy. Navigate to the map containing the stockpiles you want to measure.

  2. Select the Stockpile AI tool. Click the Stockpile AI icon located in the tool sidebar on the right side of the screen.

  3. Define the search area.
Click and drag to draw a boundary around the area where your stockpiles are located.

  4. Run detection. Click Run AI Detection. The system identifies individual piles and applies a base plane to each.

  5. Review and Save. Review the detected piles. You can manually adjust the boundaries if necessary. Click Save Measurements to add them to your project reports.

Key Features

  • Automated Detection: Automatically identifies pile boundaries without manual tracing.

  • Consistent Base Planes: Uses standardized logic to determine the bottom of a pile, reducing human error.

  • Batch Processing: Measures dozens of piles simultaneously rather than one by one.

  • Export Integration: All AI-generated measurements appear in your Volume Report and CSV exports.

Limitations

  • Stockpile AI requires high-resolution map data to accurately distinguish between piles and flat ground.

  • The tool does not detect piles located under dense vegetation or overhead structures.

  • Accuracy may vary for piles with highly irregular shapes or those leaning against walls.

FAQs

Q: Does Stockpile AI work on 3D models?
A: The detection currently runs on the 2D orthomosaic, but the volume calculations utilize the underlying 3D point cloud data for accuracy.

Q: Can I exclude certain piles from the automated detection?
A: Yes. After the AI runs, you can select any individual measurement and click Delete to remove it from your project.

Q: How does the AI handle merged piles?
A: If two piles are touching, the AI may identify them as a single mass. You can use the Split tool to manually separate them if needed.
