The Perimeter 3D, Crosshatch, and Enhanced 3D modes are Advanced Flight settings that capture angled imagery (oblique imagery) to generate higher-quality 3D models.
Oblique Imagery: Photos taken at an angle, typically around 65 degrees, as opposed to straight down (nadir). Capturing oblique imagery is crucial for improving the appearance and shape reconstruction of 3D models.
Enhanced 3D: This setting combines Perimeter 3D and Crosshatch to capture angled shots from the perimeter and oblique imagery above your subject in a crosshatch pattern for optimal 3D capture.
Availability: Who has access?
Perimeter 3D, Crosshatch, and Enhanced 3D are available to all DroneDeploy pilots.
Enhanced 3D Mode has device requirements and is compatible with most drones created after the Phantom 4.
How to Use Enhanced 3D
Open your project and navigate to the Fly tab.
Create a new map plan or select an existing one.
Click the Advanced Flight settings button.
Toggle ON Enhanced 3D to gain access to the Perimeter and Crosshatch settings.
If you toggle OFF Enhanced 3D, you disable both 3D flight patterns.
Key Features and Details
Perimeter 3D
When you enable Perimeter 3D, the flight setting adds a flight leg around the boundary of your flight plan.
The drone captures oblique imagery (a angle) facing toward the inside of your subject.
This mode is best for improving edge detail, for example, for a single house, but not as useful for a large construction site.
Crosshatch
When you enable Crosshatch, the flight setting captures oblique imagery (a angle) directly above your subject.
The mode doubles your plan lines and flies the drone in both directions for more image density and coverage, instead of a single pass.
Crosshatch is best for improving 3D over a larger site with multiple structures, and is recommended for a large construction site.
Limitations
Live Map does not work properly while the drone executes a Crosshatch flight. Turning OFF Live Map allows Crosshatch to run on the plan.
Enhanced 3D maps are best kept under 1,000 images.
FAQs
Q: Does Enhanced 3D automatically improve all maps?
A: Enhanced 3D focuses on great 3D modeling by capturing oblique imagery. The setting will improve the 3D model, but for a single structure, you may only need Perimeter 3D.
Q: Can I use Live Map with Crosshatch?
A: No. Live Map will be disabled when Crosshatch is enabled. You must turn OFF Live Map to run Crosshatch.
