LAANC Authorization with Airspace Link

Have more questions? Submit a request

What is LAANC authorization?

Low Altitude Authorization and Notification Capability (LAANC) allows pilots to check airspace restrictions and request authorization from the FAA. This system provides near real-time authorization for flights in controlled airspace. Through our partnership with Airspace Link, this service is available to all DroneDeploy Part 107 pilots.

LAANC authorization covers a range of airspace types, including:

  • Airports
  • Special uses
  • Controlled airspace
  • National parks

Note: For more information on the Airspace Link tool, visit AirHub Portal by Airspace.

Availability: Who has access?

LAANC authorization is available to all DroneDeploy Part 107 pilots.

  • The use of DroneDeploy LAANC integration is recommended, but optional.
  • If you choose to receive authorization from a third-party provider, you can quickly request authorization and fly in DroneDeploy.
  • DroneDeploy supports where you operate your drone.

How to use LAANC authorization in DroneDeploy

To access the LAANC authorization tool and request authorization for a planned flight in DroneDeploy, follow these steps:

  1. Access LAANC In DroneDeploy, navigate to your flight plan and select Airspace & LAANC from the toolbar. From there, you can read the briefing details provided by Airspace to understand any current restrictions. You can also select View Airspace to see controlled or restricted boundaries.

FAQs

Q: Does the LAANC integration work on mobile and desktop?
A: Yes. You can access the Airspace Link tool from the DroneDeploy desktop and mobile apps.

Q: What is the difference between a LAANC area and a No-Fly Zone (NFZ)
A: LAANC authorization is a legal authorization that permits you to fly in controlled airspace. A No-Fly Zone (NFZ) is a restriction put in place by DJI that can prevent your drone from flying. To fly in an NFZ, you must unlock the zone in the DJI app.

  • LAANC is optional and does not dictate drone flight.
  • NFZ is not optional, is dictated by DJI, and prevents the drone from flying.

Q: How do I unlock my drone in a No-Fly Zone (NFZ)
A: Follow our documentation to unlock the location from DJI's SD, no matter how you get your authorization.

Q: How can I update the operator information on my request?
A: If the operator's contact information is greyed out and you cannot edit it, contact Airspace Link Support to clear this information, and then enter a new pilot name and phone number.
