Request access allows members of an organization or project to ask for elevated permissions directly within the DroneDeploy interface. Whether you are a Viewer needing Edit access, or an Editor requiring Coordinator privileges, this feature streamlines the process of notifying administrators.
Availability
- Available to: All user roles (Viewer, Editor, and Coordinator) except Project Owners.
- Platforms: Web and mobile app (including DroneDeploy Ground App).
How to use Request access on Web and Mobile
Follow these steps to identify your current permissions and request an upgrade.
- Open your project in DroneDeploy.
- Locate your access tag in the top-left corner of the screen (e.g., Viewer, Editor).
- Click the access tag. A menu appears displaying your current permissions.
- Select the desired access level.
- Confirm the request. DroneDeploy sends an automated email to the project leadership.
Request access in the Ground App
Field users who do not have Edit access to a project can now request access directly through the capture flow to avoid being blocked on-site.
- Open a project in the Ground App.
- Locate the Capture Media button. If you lack the required permissions, the button will prompt a request.
- Click Request Access. This opens a prompt to notify the Project Owner or Coordinator.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to submit your request.
Key details
- Visual Indicators: A tag at the top left of any project signifies your current access level.
- Email Request Logic: When you submit a request, DroneDeploy follows a specific hierarchy to ensure the right person is notified:
- Requests go first to the Coordinators of the project.
- If no Coordinator exists, the request goes to the Project Owner.
FAQs
Q: Why can't I request access?
A: If you are the Project Owner, you already hold the highest access level for that project and do not need to request further permissions.
Q: Who approves my request?
A: Approvals are managed by the project's Coordinators or the Project Owner. You will be notified once your access level is updated.
Q: What happens if I try to capture media in the Ground App without Edit access?
A: Instead of a grayed-out button, you will see a Request Access prompt. This allows you to notify project leadership immediately so you can proceed with your work.
