How to Locate and Install the SD Card on the Insta360 ONE RS

What You'll Need:

  • Insta360 ONE RS Camera
  • MicroSD Card (compatible with the camera)
    • Recommended: UHS-I V30, U3, or higher for optimal performance (e.g., SanDisk Extreme, Samsung EVO)
  • A small tool (optional) to help open the compartment if necessary

Step 1: Power Off the Camera

Before inserting or removing the SD card, power off the camera to avoid damaging the card or the camera.

  • Press and hold the Power/Mode button on the side of the camera until the screen turns off.

Step 2: Locate the SD Card Slot

Depending on which module you are using (4K, 360, or another), the SD card slot may be in slightly different locations. Here's where to find it:

  • For the Insta360 ONE RS 4K or 1-Inch Wide Angle Module:

    • The SD card slot is located on the side of the camera body.
    • Look for a small rubber flap or cover next to the USB-C port and HDMI output.
  • For the 360 Module:

    • The SD card slot is similarly located on the side of the camera body but may be in a slightly different position based on the module design.
    • Look for the rubber or plastic flap near the bottom or side of the module.

Step 3: Open the SD Card Compartment

  • Gently pull back the rubber flap or release the cover (if applicable) to expose the SD card slot.
  • Note: Some models may have a small tab or indentation to help you pull open the cover.

Step 4: Insert the MicroSD Card

  • Check the orientation of the card: The gold connectors of the SD card should face down toward the camera body.
  • Insert the card gently into the slot, making sure it clicks into place.
  • Note: Do not force the card. If it doesn’t fit easily, make sure the orientation is correct.

Step 5: Close the SD Card Compartment

  • Once the SD card is inserted, close the rubber flap or plastic cover to protect the card and ensure water or dust does not enter the camera body.
  • Press around the edges to make sure the cover is fully sealed.

Step 6: Power On the Camera

  • Press the Power/Mode button to turn the camera back on.
  • The camera should recognize the SD card automatically. If the card is properly inserted, it will show as available for storage.

Step 7: Verify SD Card Functionality

  • After the camera powers up, check the camera's display or the app (if connected) to make sure the SD card is recognized.
    • If you see an error or the SD card isn’t detected, try re-inserting it or check if the card is properly formatted.
    • If the SD card is new, you may need to format it via the camera’s settings.

Step 8: Formatting the SD Card (if necessary)

  1. Go to the camera's settings menu.
  2. Select "Format SD Card" (you’ll find this under the settings or storage section).
  3. Confirm that you want to format the card.

Tips for Proper SD Card Use

  • Choose a high-speed SD card (UHS-I V30, U3, or higher) for smooth video recording, especially for high-resolution modes like 4K or 360°.
  • Format the SD card regularly to prevent file corruption and ensure smooth operation.
  • Eject the SD card safely from your computer or phone before removing it to avoid data loss.

Troubleshooting

  • Camera won’t recognize the SD card:
    • Ensure it’s inserted correctly.
    • Make sure it is properly formatted (use FAT32 or exFAT file system).
    • Try using a different SD card if the current one is faulty.

  • SD card error after recording:
    • Check that the SD card has enough free space.
    • Ensure the card is rated for the resolution and frame rate you're using (e.g., 4K 60fps).
