This guide gets you scanning with Emlid Reach RX and submitting actionable feedback fast. Please review before your first capture.
1. Quick Start Checklist
- DroneDeploy Ground App version 2.208.0 or later is required
- Power on Emlid Reach RX.
- Open your project to the Exterior on the DroneDeploy Ground app → select Scan Mode.
- Connect the device in-app
- Begin scan with steady motion after you see “RTK Fixed” solution.
Note: Only Emlid Reach RX is supported in this beta. You must use an iOS device with LiDAR with the proper mount and handle.https://testflight.apple.com/join/eV5jAnHP
2. Connecting the Emlid Reach RX
- Power on your Reach RX receiver.
- In DroneDeploy Ground app, navigate to your project’s Exterior and select Scan mode.
- Tap the connection bar and pick Emlid Reach RX from the list.
- The light ring on the RX will flash, indicating it’s connected. Wait for a green “RTK Fixed” indicator before scanning or the light on the RX to turn green. (If you see white or yellow, move to open sky and allow up to 1 minute for full correction.)
This is the pairing screen you’ll see when linking Emlid RX to DroneDeploy. Make sure the status bar turns green before proceeding
After connecting, monitor this status in-app. Start scanning once you see status: RTK Fixed solution (green) or green lights on the RX. You’ll see live RTK status while you’re scanning
Our app uses DroneDeploy’s RTK network—you do not need your own NTRIP credentials.
3. Capturing a Quality Scan
Before scan: Plan your path for full site coverage. During scan:
- Move at a steady pace; keep the device’s orientation consistent.
- Walk in straight lines or gentle curves—avoid sudden turns or spins.
- Cover textureless or challenging surfaces from multiple directions.
- Close the loop when possible, finishing near your starting location with slight overlap.
Pro tip: Place 1–2 control points (survey-grade) on site to validate results.
4. What to Expect / Known Issues
- Position Offset: CM-level accuracy is achieved, but expect a small fixed shift (a few centimeters) between the model and the surveyed ground due to an uncorrected camera-to-sensor offset. This will be addressed in a future update.
- Limited Receiver Support: Only the Emlid Reach RX works in this beta.
- Map Display: RTK maps may display as the project default in some scenarios; create separate projects for beta testing if needed.
5. Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Likely Cause | Resolution |
| Can’t connect to Emlid RX | Bluetooth conflict | Restart device; ensure no other app is paired |
| RTK status stays “Single/Float” | Weak satellite or interference | Move to open sky; wait 30–60 seconds |
| Model is offset | Known baseline issue | Note direction and report in feedback |
| Scan not uploading | WiFi or large file | Reconnect to stable network |
If you remain blocked, contact the support team at support@dronedeploy.com or your CSM immediately
Thank you for being a part of this beta! Your field tests will define the future of mobile-first, survey-grade 3D scanning.
7. Submitting Feedback
Your feedback makes a difference! Send feedback to your CSM and include any screenshots or example files, along with the following:
- Device model (e.g., iPhone 15 Pro, iPad Pro M2):
- Project/site name:
- Was RTK Fixed achieved (Y/N):
- Observed scan accuracy (compared to control points/drone map):
- Usability issues (mounting, app glitches, etc.):
