Improved Walk quality (HDR in Walks): HDR support for Walks is planned to further improve dynamic range in interiors and mixed lighting.
Durable for job sites: Ruggedized design with replaceable lens glass minimizes downtime from lens wear and tear.
Availability: Who has access?
Insta360 X5 support is available within the DroneDeploy Ground App on iOS (iPhone and iPad). The Ground App is iOS-only; Android is not supported.
How to use Insta360 X5 with the Ground App
Follow these steps to integrate the Insta360 X5 into your workflow:
-
Connect your X5. In the Ground App, open Capture and connect your camera. You can connect your camera via:
Nearby Camera (automatic for Insta360).
Camera List (manual selection with on-screen Wi-Fi steps).
Capture and sync 360° Panos. Capture and sync Panos the same way you would with an Insta360 X4 or X3. A 360 camera is required for Pano capture.
Capture and process Walks. Capture and process Walks the same way you would with an X3. A 360 camera is required for Walk capture.
-
Manual upload (if needed). Use the Smart Uploader on the web to upload X5 Walks:
Upload the X5’s two .insv files for each Walk.
Note: X4 is the only supported Insta360 model that uses a single .insv per Walk; all other supported Insta360 models require two .insv files.
Best practices
Use these tips to ensure the best results with the Insta360 X5:
If a pano capture gets stuck, ensure the camera’s screen preview is on.
Use a monopod or gimbal for smooth walkthroughs.
Keep camera firmware, the DroneDeploy App, and device software up to date.
Clean both lenses with a microfiber cloth before each use.
Use a fast microSD card (V30+) and format it in the Insta360 app before big shoots.
Ensure Wi-Fi is on, VPNs are off, and app permissions (camera, Bluetooth, location, Wi-Fi) are enabled.
Use extra lighting indoors or in dim areas to avoid blur or dark images. Capture in even lighting (e.g., outdoors early/late or evenly lit interiors).
Charge batteries fully and bring backups (camera, phone/tablet, SD cards).
Take extra passes in critical areas to aid stitching. Review sample images/videos on site before leaving.
